“The world we have made, as a result of the level of thinking we have done thus far, creates problems we cannot solve at the same level of thinking at which we created them.” —Albert Einstein
I had always felt drawn to alternative therapies, but I chose to pursue a conventional education, and worked my way up the professional ladder to a very successful career in corporate America. Although there were brief periods of intense devotion and profound realization throughout my life, times when I felt deeply spiritual and engaged, I lived in denial of my true calling. I assumed an escapist role as the “party girl,” always in the scene where there was sure to be drinking and carrying on until all hours of the night.
As this identity and behavior carried into my thirties, I began to feel empty and uncomfortable in my own skin. I just knew that there had to be something more than this, and I decided I would seek to find the answer within. It was apparent that the constant partying could not be part of that answer, so I set a date to quit drinking and did so. It was amazing how the “energy vampires” that had surrounded me just dropped out of my life when I wasn’t interested in gossiping on the phone or hitting the town every night. Even more amazing was how quickly I began to attract new friendships—positive, loving souls with whom I felt an instant connection.
Another positive result of my decision to turn my life around was a strengthened intuitive sense. And one of the main messages, which I had heard throughout my life but had always chosen to ignore, was that I was to be a healer. The messages came in all forms—a strong feeling, signs and coincidences, meditation, dreams, tarot cards, psychics ... you name it. But most importantly, it felt like something I’d always known deep down inside.
I knew that learning Reiki would be a good foundation for a career in healing, and enrolled and became certified in Reiki I and II. My instructor was quite impressive in her abilities to channel life force energy, and was a master in every sense of the word. I had heard some amazing personal accounts, such as miraculously shrinking giant tumors down to the size of a pea, but eventually found that the modality just didn’t quite resonate with me. I worked on many people with Reiki, and while most of my very willing patients had some terrific short-term benefits, their issues always seemed to reappear—and usually much more quickly after subsequent treatments.
During that time I also became very interested in Angelic Healing, as described in several of Doreen Virtue’s books, such as Angel Medicine, and Healing with the Angels. I found most of those techniques to be very effective and will definitely employ them for the rest of my life. I actually was able to easily release my addiction to alcohol through a very simple cord-cutting exercise she describes. Like Goldilocks, however, I was still searching for the modality that to me would seem “just right.”
Next I explored a kind of “earth mother” approach that involved lots of oils, sage-burning, and sometimes, screaming and crying from the participants we were working on in class. Again, while I saw and personally experienced some profound restorative treatments in that class, it just wasn’t for me. There were beautiful qualities and symbolism in that type of healing, but again, it just wasn’t resonating.
It was at that point that I discovered Theta Healing, which had instant appeal for me when I learned that the healer works directly with the Creator to facilitate healings. In researching the method on the internet, I read scores of testimonies from Theta patients who claimed these treatments had helped them quit smoking, recover from gout and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, gain confidence and self-love, and also attract abundance and the right relationships in their lives, to name a few outstanding results. The method was channeled and pioneered by medical intuitive Vianna Stibal when cancer almost cost her one of her legs, and even threatened to take her life. My curiosity was piqued.
I also learned that Theta healings are conducted by tapping into the source of all energy, and that this energy does not discriminate against any particular creed or the absence of spiritual beliefs. If patients prefer not to use the word “God” in their session, the practitioner may substitute any word that suits them, such as “life force” or “love.”
The sessions revolve around transforming self-limiting beliefs that block patients from achieving various goals in their lives. For example, if someone believes that “money is the root of all evil,” this belief might limit them from attaining career success. By replacing that belief with “money is good,” this could potentially help them advance professionally and materially.
Theta Healing is based in the theta brain wave state, where intuition comes to us, instantaneous healings take place, and accelerated learning occurs. Albert Einstein is reported to have said that some of his best work came from ideas he had while engaged in “something like” daydreaming, that is, an alpha-theta state. There are many claims that, in time, scientists will be able to demonstrate and explain the amazing phenomena accessible through this type of energy work.
The more scientific explanation for this type of work is that in the theta brain state, healing facilitators are able to instantly pull and replace specific thought patterns from all levels on which they are stored in the body: from cellular memory, genetic and generational patterns, to core beliefs and at the soul level. Freeing us from these patterns liberates our energy and our free will, and allows us to create the life of our dreams. I felt compelled to learn more.
There always was a middleman in my healings; that didn’t seem to offer me, personally, the assurance that working directly with the Creator might. I thought, “Could this be possible? Could I really work directly with God?” With three healing practitioner certifications under my belt and a hunger to really find my niche, I decided I would try a Theta healing before enrolling in a practitioner course.
I chose to have a distance healing over the phone, as I had had about a dozen healings over the last few years and it was my experience that they were just as effective, if not more so, than in-person healings. The reason for this is that many of people’s judgments are relinquished if they are not face-to-face with their subjects.
When I first called, Theta Healing practitioner Kara Lange opened the session by declaring that she would go into a theta state to ask God in which areas I might need healing. After a brief pause, she returned to the phone and asked me, “How long have you had a sore throat?” Although I didn’t have any telltale rasp to my voice, I had had a sore throat for about three days at that point. It had struck me as odd because I wasn’t ill and I don’t smoke, and it seemed to have appeared out of nowhere. After I told her that I did, in fact, have a sore throat, she replied “What are you holding back that you need to tell someone?”
I was stunned, as I had been keeping something from someone for the past three days! In my office, we had been receiving complaints about our receptionist’s phone etiquette, and I agreed that I would broach the subject with her. Although she is positively one of the friendliest people I have ever met, sometimes she is overwhelmed by the high volume of calls and can appear to be short with callers. I was procrastinating over talking to her because I was afraid I’d hurt her feelings by telling her about the complaints.
The Theta healer remarked how fascinating it is that our body gives us signals when something is wrong, and then asked if she could have permission to ask God to heal my sore throat. Just as soon as I said yes, my sore throat simply vanished. The next day I told our receptionist about the complaints and she was extremely thankful for the information, and said she would make an effort to be more aware of how she handles calls when she feels harried.
During the healing, we discovered through a series of questions that I also had some false beliefs about what was “healthy,” and so I received “God’s definition of healthy.” I haven’t cared for the Dunkin’ Donuts or the countless variety of terrible treats that plague my office since—it is as though my very taste buds were reprogrammed! I also cleared my conflating “being heavy” with “abundance” to ensure I wasn’t blocking abundance from manifesting in my life.
Previous to taking the Theta practitioner course, I had had some bad nightmares. During the class, I learned that I possessed a sense of powerlessness. After replacing that belief with a sense of power, I had yet another nightmare that evening. This time, however, while chaos ensued around me, I was in control of the situation and not victimized as I had been before in so many nightmare sequences throughout my life. This experience helped me to understand how a few primary patterns can support thousands of related beliefs.
I also discovered that I held an inner belief that I was not “beautiful.” After replacing that with the belief that I am beautiful, I went out to dinner at a new hotspot with a girlfriend of mine. About halfway through our meal, a man came over to our dinner table and said that my beauty stopped his entire table’s conversation when I walked by, and invited us to join them for a drink. I opted for water instead, and a good time was had by all. Clearly, “believing” changes the very energy around us.
While I have found many healing modalities to be effective, my own results were typically not permanent because they had not identified and effectively eliminated the root cause. Such healings, as the dozens I’ve had before, hardly ever effected long-term change in my patterns, the cause of the problems in the first place. Theta Healing has been empowering for me in that it has seemed to permanently shift my consciousness, and allowed me to find a modality that finally feels “just right.”
